Trump's New Tariff Plan is Good for America
There are a lot of left-wing Americans who are upset about president-elect Donald Trump’s plan to impose higher tariffs on foreign imports.
Besides the Trump derangement syndrome that is blatantly obvious, the only argument that Democrats and Liberals have against higher tariffs is the higher cost of consumer goods as a result.
Will the cost of consumer goods increase? To be honest, yes, it more than likely will but for how long and by how much is a very small price to pay when you compare the results with all the good we can accomplish with Trump’s new plan.
We’re talking about:
- Protection of Domestic Industries – One of the primary reasons we need tariffs is to protect domestic industries from foreign competition. By imposing tariffs on imported goods, the government can make these goods more expensive thereby encouraging consumers to purchase those same goods that were made here in America first. This can help revitalize struggling industries and preserve jobs in sectors that might otherwise be unable to compete with cheaper foreign alternatives.
- Job Preservation and Creation – Tariffs can help protect jobs in key manufacturing sectors. When foreign products are subject to higher tariffs, it provides an advantage to domestic manufacturers, potentially leading to job retention and creation. This can be particularly important in industries such as steel, aluminum and textiles, where competition from countries with lower labor costs can lead to significant job losses.
- Trade Balance Improvement – By making imports more expensive, tariffs can help reduce the trade deficit. A lower volume of imports can lead to amore favorable balance of trade, which is often viewed as beneficial for the economy. A healthier trade balance can strengthen a country’s currency and contribute to overall economic stability.
- Encouragement of Fair Trade Practices – Tariffs can be a tool to encourage fair trade practices. Countries that engage in unfair practices, such as a dumping products at below-market prices or subsidizing their industries, can be held accountable through tariffs. This can help create a more level playing field for American businesses, encouraging other nations to adhere to fair trade standards.
- Incentives for Innovation and Investment – With reduced competition from foreign imports, domestic companies may invest more in innovation and production capabilities. This can lead to the development of new technologies and processes, ultimately benefiting consumers through better products and services.
- National Security Considerations – Certain industries are deemed critical for national security, such as defense and energy. Tariffs can help ensure that these vital sectors remain robust and capable of meeting domestic needs without over-reliance on foreign suppliers, which could be problematic in times of geopolitical tension.
- Economic Sovereignty – By controlling trade policy through tariffs, a country can assert its economic sovereignty. This can be particularly important in an increasingly globalized world where nations may feel their economic interests are being overshadowed by multinational corporations and global market forces.
- Short-term Gains with Long-term Potential – While there may be short-term disruptions in the economy due to tariffs, such as increased prices for consumers, the long-term potential for a more resilient domestic industry can outweigh these initial costs. As domestic industries grow stronger, they can become more competitive globally.
So, in short, while the implementation of tariffs can lead to various economic challenges, they serve as a tool for protecting domestic industries, preserving jobs and promoting fair trade practices. When you consider and focus on these factors for the good of our country, it’s easy to understand how tariffs are an exchange between short-term higher prices and long-term economic growth.
And that’s the ultimate goal – a stronger economy and to Make America GREAT AGAIN!
